Easter Monday: Solemn Mass at St Birinus, Dorchester

Another glorious Mass: the annual Easter Monday Solemn Mass at St Birinus, Dorchester on Thames. The celebrant was Fr John Osman, the Parish Priest, the deacon Br Lawrence Lew of the Oxford Blackfriars, and the subdeacon Fr Guy Nichols of the Birmingham Oratory. It was accompanied by singers of the Schola Gregoriana of Cambridge, and the church was packed.















Mass at St Birinus, especially Solemn Mass, is a fascinating subject for photography, because of the interaction of the ceremonies and the Rood Screen. The screen does not hide the action from the congregation, like an Eastern Iconostasis, but rather frames it: it is like viewing it through a window - a window into another world.
