Read me in the Catholic Universe

I have a long article in the Christmas double issue of the Catholic Universe, about the Traditional Mass and the New Age. Here's a sneak preview. The article p42.

  1. Very interesting. I've not bought The Universe for ages but I'll make an exception this week. I think this link between the abandonment of the Old Mass and the rise of the New Age is both important and understated. I remember, as a teenager, how thirsty I was for the sacred - for mystery - and how the suburban post-V2 South Manchester churches of my youth simply 'didn't want to go there.' I was lucky though - CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien and Roger Lancelyn Green saved me from the New Age. Not everyone among my Catholic contemporaries had that mythic, imaginative ballast. Some of them, I think, felt they had nowhere else to go but the New Age in its various guises. And they were right in a way, given the extent to which the 'Spirit of V2' threw the 'sacred' baby out with the supposedly 'outdated and legalistic' bathwater. Roger Buck, who spent 20 years at the Findhorn New Age Community before becoming a Traditional Catholic, writes well about all this on his blog and in his new book too I believe, both of which are called 'Cor Jesu Sacratissimum'.
