  1. Was this celebrated according to the pre-Pian reforms? It's celebrated in the middle of the day.

    1. From the pictures, I'd say demonstrably no. The biggest giveaway is the dalmatic and tunicle, or perhaps the paschal candle itself. I'm not really sure what symbolism that now has but a friend and I postulated it must be something pagan, like the "regenerative force in nature."

I'm amazed you had the nerve to do this outside in the open.

  2. The Latin Mass Society's Easter Triduum is all post 1955, except for the timings which are simply the slots available in the church we use.

    1. The blessing of the candle takes place in an alley behind Eldon Street which you can access directly from the sacristy.

    2. The candle, of course, was a feature of the pre-1955 services as well, though the ceremonies and prayers have changed. The fire, too, was blessed outside, but formerly the blessed fire was brought to the candle, which stayed inside the church, using a three-branched candlestick.

In a really enormous church you can have the fire at the back: I've seen this done in Downside Abbey, the smoke just disappears into the cavernous roof.
