I am late with the news, but it has been a hectic Spring and Summer.
Two of the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer, an order with the Redemptorist charism inspired by St Alphonsus Ligouri, based on Papa Stronsay in the Orkneys, were ordained in Rome on Saturday 22nd June, by Archbishop Pozzo, an official of the Roman Curia. The ordinations took place in the Traditional Rite, and the order is exclusively devoted to this rite.
Established first under the wing of the SSPX, the small community was reconciled as one of the most notable ecumenical fruits of the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum. They have had to wait a long time for their constitutions to be approved, and even longer for these two young men to be ordained. This has been a difficult time for them, as they have not been able to carry out their normal apostolic work, which also brings in the donations enabling them to live. They have, in my view, exhibited heroic patience, and this has been rewarded.
I hope the Sons can now spread their wings a bit, and that we will be seeing them doing things in England and elsewhere. They specialise in parish missions, just like the Redemptorists of old. They have a number of men in seminary (they go to Our Lady of Guadaloupe, the FSSP Seminary in the USA), and have recently clothed three postulants.
In the words of St Edmund Campion: 'It is of God, it cannot be withstood.'
