  1. This is a most important matter given the creeping anti-Jewishness in secular society and indeed within the history of the Church.

I am frankly surprised, and pleasantly so, at the examples you give of prayer for the conversion of Jews in the New Liturgy. One is left wondering what all the fuss is about. Or rather what the bishops really have in mind with such uncharacteristic attention to detail.

I have always felt a great empathy with Jews, going back to my late teens, but that is another story. I do remember, a few years later, having a jocular argument with a Jewish friend in Bethlehem about who was protecting who!

The Holy father has urged us all to evangelise, that is to preach with a view to winning over. In other words convert from one belief to the Catholic belief that Christ is the Son of the Triune God, who constitutes the Completion of the Jewish Old Testament.

As for + MacDonald, I am sure it is “ineffable” that has put him off, even though it has been dropped. He may not know that. Does he wear hearing aids?
