Old Rite Requiem for Fr Thwaites

This will be said by his fellow Jesuit Fr John Edwards in the famous Jesuit Church, the Immaculate Conception Farm Street, (114 Mount Street, City of Westminster, W1K 3AH)

2pm, Tuesday 11th September. Map

Here's Gloria TV News on the controversy over the Jesuits' arrangements for his funeral. This Requiem to be celebrated by Fr Edwards will be the first Traditional Mass to be said in Farm Street, as far as we know, since 1970, so something good has come out of it! Fr Hugh Thwaites may be smiling about this from his new perch above...

  1. Is this an old rite Mass being offered for the repose of the soul of Fr Thwaites, RIP, or a Requiem Mass? I thought only one Requiem Mass was permitted, and that Fr Thwaites' was last Friday (even though it was, regrettably, not in the form that he would have wished).

  2. You can have as many Requiems as you like, the more the merrier!

  3. Thank you. I am very pleased to hear this. Does this mean that on the anniversary of my mother's death I can ask for a Requiem Mass to be said, rather than ask that the priest offer the Mass of the day for the repose of her soul - which is what I think has happened until now. Would a Requiem Mass be better or does it make much difference?

  4. Every Mass has infinite intrinsic value. But it is appropriate to have a Requiem for the dead, and the Church provides special prospers (collect etc.) for the anniversary of death. It could not be a Requiem on a feast day of course.
